My son has been coming to this school for almost a year now, and he really feels that he is in the right place with the right team. The coaches, and administration are excellent. I signed my 8 year old son up for classes here and he absolutely loves it. It’s a great way for him to get exercise, learn self defense skills, and learn how to better interact with other kids with confidence. It was such a great experience for him that it inspired me to join as well. We are both so very excited to come to class.

My seven year old son has been a student at MCBJJ for nearly a year now and in that time he has grown not only in jiu-jitsu, but also in respect, dedication and self-esteem. Whatever you are searching for you will find it here. I initially joined because I was looking for a home away from home. I got way more then I had ever hoped for. Professor Cruz, his instructors, and the students have all helped rebuild my confidence, self esteem, and gave me the tools needed to focus on what truly matters in my life. It’s an amazingly friendly environment with great instruction. Just like a loving family with amazing parents. I strongly encourage signing up.

My wife and I took my three year old son to the Carrollwood academy yesterday evening. The instructors were AMAZING. It is next to impossible to get my son to focus on just one thing. However, with the friendly, fun and patient environment the staff puts on Caleb (my son) couldn't get enough of it! We signed him up right after class and now I think I will be bringing my niece. I wish there was an option for 10 stars!

Do I need to know jiu-jitsu or Judo to study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

No, you don’t. There are beginner classes available and many of the people who study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu have no prior martial arts training.

Do I need any special equipment to study Brazilian Martial Arts?

Students typically wear a Gi (two-piece garment worn by martial artists.) It is also typical for some students may want to wear a mouth guard. It’s a good idea to have a supply of athletic tape, as well.

As a beginner, do I need to spar?

No. Beginner classes focus on teaching basic techniques and safety, and you can then work your way up to controlled sparring in class.
